Yokaiden by Nina Matsumoto

Yokaiden 2Yokaiden 2 by Nina Matsumoto

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was so thoroughly surprised when I read this manga, I was pretty iffy about it, was on the fence about the art and while supernatural is one of my favorite genres, I just wasn't too excited about the plot from the synopsis on the back cover, but to my delight, I found myself totally loving it. It's hysterical. The dialouge is awesome and had me in stitches. The art grew on me as did the characters, Hamachi charmed me with his quirky ways. I got thoroughly into it and only after I had finished the second volume did I discover, to my horror, that it's unfinished. What a let-down. One of the thing's I hate most about series and unfortunately almost makes me wish I hadn't read it to begin with. BUT! /this/ series is too good to miss out on, so even if the third volume never makes an appearance, I still recommend it. :)

Baby Pop by Yayoi Ogawa

Baby Pop Vol. 2Baby Pop Vol. 2 by Yayoi Ogawa

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love this mangaka and I really liked Baby Pop. Nagisa's character appealed to me very much. She was strong-willed, but was still shown to be vulnerable at times, and would accept comfort at those times, she seemed very human to me, and I liked that, I was able to relate to her better, as compared to a lot of manga characters, which are too extreme in their personalities. I will admit to being totally in love with Ryu. I find it totally sweet how he dotes on Nagisa and calls her "my Baby". I like how real his character felt to me too, especially his grief. I loved reading every chapter of this manga and I regret that it ended after two volumes. I felt like it was too abrupt, and I'm not sure if it was meant to end there, or if the manga was cancelled and that's why. Definitely one I'll end up rereading many times though I'm sure.
